Our language
mapping work is part of a collaborative effort known as the
Global Ministry
Mapping System. This system compiles location data and other information
about minority indigenous language groups from various sources in various
countries. SIL language surveyors and other linguists and agencies
help collect this information.
We combine
the data with a variety of geographic features to create language maps of many
different countries. These maps are a basis for many of the maps in the
Ethnologue, People Profiles, and other
related publications. One of the most current maps can be seen in the section
for
Chile and Argentina. Many of these language maps are also
in the printed edition of the Ethnologue.
A related
project includes a detailed mapping of the
Mande
language family of West Africa.
We have also
helped with
maps of
Creole languages in the Caribbean. |
